What Dental Veneers Can Do
Dental veneers are ultra-thin, tooth-colored shells that fit over the front surfaces over your teeth. Dental veneers are a cosmetic wonder because they can change the length, size, shape, and color of your teeth. Our veneers will fortify your teeth so that they can function properly. They can even help to prevent decay. Dental veneers can do all of the following and more:
- Close gaps between the teeth.
- Fix broken or chipped teeth.
- Correctly align teeth that are uneven or misaligned.
- Repair teeth that are worn down from tooth grinding (bruxism).
- Reshape incorrectly shaped teeth.
- Recolor dark or discolored teeth.
Dental Veneer Procedure
If you decide to transform your smile with dental veneers, the procedure will go something like this:
Initial Consultation | During your first visit with Dr. Cantwell, you will discuss your desired results. He will administer an examination and determine the best way to get you the smile that you want.
Create a Plan | If Dr. Cantwell determines that veneers are the right choice for you, he will take X-rays and impressions of your teeth to send to a dental lab. In a week or two, your custom veneers will be ready for placement.
Preparation of the Teeth | Your dentist will prepare your teeth so that the veneers will fit beautifully onto their surfaces by filing the teeth down slightly. He will then clean and polish the tooth or teeth. He will use a local anesthetic for your comfort.
Placement of the Veneer | If the veneer looks like it will flawlessly improve your smile, Dr. Cantwell will roughen your tooth slightly. He will then use a cement and a curing light to permanently bond the veneer to the tooth.
A Lifetime of Smiles | Now you can enjoy the bright and even smile that dental veneers will give you. You can return to Dr. Cantwell for follow-up appointments to ensure that your veneers are benefitting you as much as possible.
